For over 35 years, braille literacy has been a fundamental aspect of HumanWare's identity, aligning perfectly with the Indian startup, Thinkerbell Labs’ vision of achieving 100% braille literacy worldwide. With the introduction of "Annie," the flagship product from Thinkerbell Labs, HumanWare is excited to contribute to the braille learning journey as a distributor in the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. This becomes especially significant given the global shortage of TVIs (teachers of the visually impaired) and the common overwork they face to keep their students on par with their sighted peers. With interactive learning and the introduction of gamification for the first time in a braille learning solution, the technology’s impact has been profound on thousands of students in India and the US, helping them excel in braille. In early 2023, Annie’s variant “Polly” was launched nationwide in the United States, in partnership with the American Printing House for the Blind. Polly proved to be a blockbuster success, with its first batch selling out in less than 10 days. The braille learning solution even made it to TIME’s Best Inventions list for 2022. HumanWare has been a stalwart in the assistive technology space. With Annie's arrival in the UK and Ireland, as well as its upcoming expansion to Australia and New Zealand shortly, HumanWare and Thinkerbell Labs are set to revolutionize braille learning in these geographies. #innovation #assistivetech #HumanWare #partnership #startup #madeinindia #business #visuallyimpaired Internet Society Foundation Global Talent Hunt & Recognition Foundation Drishti Foundation Trust Action For India Venture Center (Official Account) Rainmatter Foundation Wadhwani Foundation Frontline Funding Nirmaan Organization Pratham Education Foundation EnAble India Save the Children International

It's Web Accessibility Wednesday! Today we have five resources on refreshable braille displays. There's been a lot of interest in this topic by my fellow developers. I've been working on an article "What Are Refreshable Braille Displays and What Do Devs Need to Know?". But, I've gone down the unicode and eight-dot braille rabbit hole, so look for it next week. Until that's finished, here's a quick overview and five resources: What Are Refreshable Braille Displays (RBD)? Refreshable braille displays are output devices with cells with 8 pins that can go up or down allowing users to read tactile braille. 1) YouTube short video: "What is it?! What does it cost?! Blind Braille Display" Unsightly Opinions https://lnkd.in/gqW8_kne https://lnkd.in/gYEXE_bf 2) Article: "How Braille Displays Help Users with Visual Impairments Access the Web" Bureau of Internet Accessibility https://lnkd.in/gZx5PyZW 3) Video: Introducing Chameleon 20: A 20-Cell Refreshable Braille Display https://lnkd.in/gwjcQM2F New RBD with QWERTY Keyboard Almost all refreshable braille displays do not have QWERTY keyboards (they instead have a brailler keyboard with 6 or 8 keys). However, a newer device - Mantis Q40 Braille by HumanWare - is a combination refreshable braille display, QWERTY keyboard, plus built in storage, calculator, and word processor. 4) Short Microsoft MSN video: "Tech I Can't Live Without: Mantis Q40 Braille display" A really good demonstration and explanation of why many blind and low vision users prefer to use braille at work. https://lnkd.in/geNT4NMV 4) YouTube Video: Mantis Q40: An All-in-One QWERTY Keyboard and Refreshable Braille Display Time: 3:08 American Printing House for the Blind https://lnkd.in/g4V5zmQX https://lnkd.in/gAuF9EpK ___ As always it would be wonderful if others passionate about accessibility could share this post and article with their network! 🙏 Cathy C., Ben Myers, Oskar Westin, David Dame ♿️, Damian Milczarski, Ashlee 🤟🏻 Boyer (deaf), Michele A.
